i have Bantom silkies almost 2 weeks old. Wondering if they are ready to go out on the screened in porch in brooder. Going down to 50 at night 70 during day. Will have heat lamp

My brooder is built into the coop. My chicks go straight there from the incubator or post office. As far as I'm concerned your chicks could have been on the porch two weeks ago with the proper brooder.

They need breeze protection where they are, plus you do not want rain to hit them. They need to stay dry.

The biggest problem for me in brooding outside is the temperature swings. Heat can be more deadly than cold. I also use a heat lamp. The idea is to have a spot cool enough in the warmest of conditions and warm enough in the coolest conditions. That basically means keeping one area of the brooder warm enough at all times and have the brooder big enough an dwell enough ventilated that the far end can cool off enough when it gets hot. If you can manage that, put them out today.
