Ready for Spring

Finally showed the chickens to my wife a few days ago. I told her they had grown a lot in the last month. when I showed her I said they grew so much that they already had babies. Her expression was priceless as she looked at me and asked "they had babies already?". Oh goodness I did all I could to control myself from not saying yes. I did tell her that they didn't and she asked me when the hell I got all those chicks, Not by any means in the way I thought she would take it, She was pretty relaxed about it & not mad at all. She then asked me if we could eat them ( the roos, as I only plan on keeping 2, one RIW & 1 SRO). I said we sure could. I've worked a bit on the coop everyday after work all this past week & just finished extending the brooder pen today. Tomorrow I plan on hanging the rabbit cages and cleaning out some of the clutter so I can build the other pen. I managed to finally cut my lawn today as it was getting pretty high. I kinda liked the way it looked though with all the dandelions growing. I started marking out where I want my vegetable garden and maybe tomorrow might work on it a bit. So much to do and only two more days off before my work week starts. The chicks are coming along nicely and each with their own personality. I gave them a few worms today since it had rained a bit & they went nuts over them. I still have to build a run as well so they can get out for a bit.

Been a hectic couple of weeks. All started with the weird weather we've been having, lost 2 Orloff chicks between Thursday & Friday from all the rain & change in temperature, really frustrated. I did acquire a nice white bantam Orloff pair a few weeks ago though. Finished the other coop inside the shed & put my RIR, RIW in it with the bantam pair. They are growing steadily and come running every time I go in the shed. I managed to make a temporary run for my sex links & they enjoy getting out every afternoon when I come home from work. I'm hoping to move the shed in the following weeks so I can set up the complete run for all the chicks. I also managed to build nest boxes for the sex links although they are still a few months from even thinking of laying any eggs. Gonna be pretty busy the next couple of weeks with work but still hoping to have time to hop on here and stay informed.
