Ready Set Hatch! Set 3/17 Hatch 4/7 - ready now! Hatch-Along

Another cuckoo Orp is out, making the tally 14 and lots of pips :).

Bilbo (the assisted chick) is still sitting tight and absorbing blood but looks great.

First dark cornish hatched making us at 15 out ^_^

Note to self: do NOT set eggs at night! I need to set them at noon next time because I am so tired but I am afraid to go to bed.

Our last couple we have set around 5pm and had hatches in the late am. Well, as accurate as you could estimate. Pips have always seemed to be late at night.

7 from 7 are out. the 3 'lorp's are all black.

Nearly dry :)

UGH, just as I was going to bed 3 more hatched one right after the other! 2 cuckoo Orps and 1 of the last 2 Basque cross eggs left.

WOOH, hopefully no one else starts zipping before I can make it to bed.

I just keep watching mine.. they are just wiggly..when they get still, I talk to them softly, and o swear they wiggle harder... Of course, its 3am and I haven't slept so I could just be delusional :)

The chick photos are so adorable! My eggs are popping open everywhere now - I can't see into the window well enough to see them much but t can see the little silkie egg still there. I have a maran that pipped more than 24 hours ago - still sitting there peeking out its window.

I hope Baby II is drying nicely, looking forward to seeing a pic all fluffed up!

Dylon, so glad you are getting your wiggles. The pip is exciting as you know they have made progress, but I find it REAL exciting watching them zip. Once they open that hole a bit more, pull up a chair and hang around because it does not take long once that starts! It should be called 'hooking' not zipping as that when I became hooked on hatching lol

Well, what a birthday, I hope you're keen for pictures, because I have a few to share!

All seven are now in the brooder, two have freaked me out again with the old 'fake death' nap. Glad I knew to expect it. Showed them the water and food, but they seem pretty keen to just have power naps and peck each others toes.

Kept pretty busy for my birthday, but I did manage to build the second nest box, so just need to paint and fit those. Going to put wire over the door ways so the chicks don't get any idea's about pooping in there before lay.

So here we go.....
Thinking now I may add a rear lip on these so bedding does not fall out when the hatch is opened.

Getting ready to move from Battle Ground 'Bator to the brooder.
Seven new comers are un-named.
3 'lorp (black)
2 SPW
2 BV

Touch down!

4 year old space invader hand!

This little one laied down, stretched and fell asleep mid stretch, right there while I was trying to take a pic of it awake!

We to show photo to DW, came back in and this one decided on a 'insta-nap'

SPW, smallest two of this hatch, already great looking.

So Part 1 was a hit, another day or so and we will have a look at feather sexing and see how close we are there.

Here is Part 2. Got a Day 18 candle in and all look healthy going into lock down

Been great so far, can't wait to meet the L/A's too! I will be back for and with more updates!

UPDATE: two chicks out with two more pips. What is it with these guys pipping upside down!? I have one pipped regular and the other wants to be like "Topsy" our first chick to pip upside down. :/ seriously now I'm going to be worried untill I get back from church!!

UPDATE ON TOPSY: Topsy is still weak and slowly fluffing out, he was a little sticky when I helped him out. His belly is drying up nicely and his legs look fine. He's just a little weak. Still sleeping and not wobbling around much if #2 don't encourage him to move around by the time I get home from church I'm home from church I'll give him some electrlytes or some sugar water or a mixture of both and hopefully that'll jump start him. What'd ya'll think?
