Hi hi read that if you have a baby chicken who has hatched and if then hen leaves it to die or the incubator stops pour hot water in to the bucket and hold the chicken in there and move its feet do eat for 20 mins oh and what country are you all from because I'm an Aussie

Do you guys think the chicks will be good in a cage outside? There is a good box of wood shavings under two headlamps hanging. They can move in and out of the heat as needed!

I agree.Yikes - I know you're not up north like I am but will it stay 90-95° all day and night in there? I'd be very worried about predators as well - chicks are so easy for them to grab. What is the cage made of? It would need to be caged on all 6 sides - floor and roof too- with small hardware cloth, chickenwire is not strong enough and chicks can actually fit through the holes. That's for any type of protection. Keep in mind many predators will reach through and pull them out of the holes, not to be graphic but they'll pull through the parts that fit when they're bigger too. I'm a worrier so maybe I over protect, but I feel like I brought them into the world without a mom to keep them safe so I feel I need to do that for them. I think most brood them inside a house or at least inside a closed up building with supervised outdoor outings until they're fully feathered - around 5-6 weeks.
