Ready Set Hatch! Set 3/17 Hatch 4/7 - ready now! Hatch-Along

Day 23 now, and as of right now Frodo is still alive and moving around in the shell. It has oxygen, so now all it needs is to hurry up and hatch! Although if I had an egg that big I wouldn't be in a rush to leave it either :p

I had to help the second Marans out. It was shrink wrapped pretty badly but seems to be doing well. Still, it was scary. One more hatched last night and the remaining two are pipped. They are all a little darker than I thought but will wait to get them out of the bator to get another picture. I have one Coronation Sussex pipped and I'm NOT opening that bator again and jeopardize that hatch.

hi have hatched you chooks yet if how do you tell them apart

hokankai explained it well :) sorry - just woke up. Only certain breeds/hybrids can be told apart. Good luck!

This was the first time I had one stuck. I agree - scary. I could see its little helpless face and as soon as I started sponging the edges it started trying again. Can't wait for pics! Maybe it's just the lighting.

Just a couple photos :) Purebred Euskal Oiloa The PB Euskal Oiloa and crosses EOxEE a Splash Orpington (left) next to a splash Jersey Giant More to come once the hatch is officially complete :)
Well, 35 chickes out for a 76% hatch rate; there is one more pipped and several that are not doing a thing in there, but left them for the time being. Had one mortality; looked like it didn't absorb it's yolk all the way. All EE and OE. Lots of different colors, I'll take more close ups of them tomorrow. Some don't seem to have any muffs or beards and others have huge chipmunk cheeks.
super cute chicks everybody congratulations

Yes great to hear so many doing well.

Congrats Dylon, your a father lol.

For us, Part 2 was a great success, Set 6, 1 clear, 5 into lock down and five hatched today. Currently drying off. All hatched in my DIY incubator so it performed well.

Once they move to the brooder I will get some pictures to share. Hard to tell just yet about the beards/muffs/tufts. The breeder said hers were bearded, but I have read that both bearded and non bearded need to be mated, so it's hit and miss if you get the dominate gene or not. Same with the rumpless gene. (Apparently, mating bearded with bearded can be fatal)

They are smaller than the others we have hatched in Part 1, and already shining silver :D

What a couple of day's it been!

This one had to have help because it started to dry out... She made it out though, all the way.
They are still hatching... I think I have 15-17 out and a few more working on it.

Cute chicks everybody!

The good news is that all 5 of my Marans are hatched, the little devils. They all insisted on opening a big gaping hole and zipping agonizingly slow. I also have one Coronation Sussex hatched.

The bad news is that I also have a Coronation Sussex with a pip on the wrong end. I don't think it's going to make it. You can see the tip of its beak in a pool of yellow yolk and though it's moving now, I just don't see how it can make it. Time will tell I guess. I'm not going to touch it. I have a dr. appt. to go to and I have 0 experience with wrong-end pips. I think it's best to let it go.
