Ready to Lay?

That's interesting....my BCMxCCL are mostly solid black.

We have ladies with no males and they squat for us, one has been laying for almost a week, and we found a white egg today (not sure who the culprit was). Our first layer is a 21 week old red mutt. As stated, i guess it is possible that having a rooster around might speed up the process, but i seriously doubt you will have to wait months longer just because there is no male encouragement.

Mine are going on 18 weeks. A rooster is present, no eggs. I feel we are getting close. I'm thinking the female khaki will lay first, she is a week older. I keep looking, but nothing.

I have a Cream Legbar and an Olive Egger that are about 20 weeks! :highfive:

One of my four is laying, but I'm not sure who yet! It is a dark brown egg, so my OE might be one of the few who actually lays brown.... Guess I'll know once the others lay, because I'll never be able to catch them to feel pelvic bones.

Hopefully they will lay for you soon. Keep an eye out as it will be when you least expect it.

I was shocked when we got our first egg because we weren’t expecting eggs quite yet. We have 5 or 6 of our 12 laying at this point. We had another of our EE start laying today as we ended up with a pinkish tinted egg that we haven’t had before. One of our youngest girls has started laying already so there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason for who lays first.

I only have one laying right now and she was already laying when I bought her a month ago. I’ll definitely know who’s eggs are who’s. My current is laying white and these two that I’m waiting on will lay blue and a tan to olive Green. I spend a lot of time with them, and I think that makes the wait worse. It’s like waiting for water to boil

When we picked her out at 8 weeks from the breeder, she was the only brown. The others where black like yours. I’ve wondered if the BCM in her will delay laying because I was told BCM lay closer to 7 months
Wondering if she's an 'oops'....she looks nothing like either breed. Time will tell I guess.
I too wonder if onset of lay will be an issue due to BCM blood, as well as eggs per week as both BCM and CCL are not prolific layers. The one BCM hen I have was not particularly late in laying, tho I didn't record how many weeks old she was, and she lays at a pretty good rate.

It’s absolutely possible! This particular breeder was also hatching Rumpless Araucanas (spelling?) and possibly other breeds. I’ll be pretty happy either way. This little girl is exceptionally soft and friendly.
