They were black copper Marans.

Then I have no idea why it's offspring would be brown/red.

I found an image on a post here called “cream Legbar perfection” and it was of a Legbar cross that looked similar to my bird. That and the other image I posted makes me think that maybe the red is a recessive present in both breeds.

Unsure but that looks like a possible CCL x Welsummer. The pics of the Black Copper Marans hen also looks like she has something else in there with her red barring or lacing in the feathers. I have the same BCM x CCL cross that @aart does and as far as I remember in our discussion about this, a CCL hen with this cross will only produce a pure black pullet or a barred cockerel.

I had a cockerel from the same batch of OE crosses he hatched. I traded him back for a cream Legbar pullet. Here he is at 12 ish weeks

Btw here is Taco at 8 weeks. We picked her specifically because of the pretty color. She was in a pin with all black chicks. She was the only little brown

She is a pretty hen regardless of her parentage. I would think that you should be getting eggs within a few weeks. Post some pics of them, it would be interesting to see the color!
