Hello, I posted the other day about my silkie that has lost so much weight and was weak. I had a feeling she was having a hard time finding food and water out in the coop although I showed her a number of times. Well, after 2 hours of shaving her "poof" and trying to find her eyes, I did finally find her eyes and they were sealed shut. Plenty of vaseline and gentle massaging opened the slits. I have never seen a crest so full, that it actually kept her eyes shut. She is finally eating like a pig and drinking plenty of water. She feels heavier already. I was planning on showing her in August, but oh well. Maybe it will grow back and she will be strong once again.

I had to do that with one of my lavs-Crest so huge it couldnt see. Since I dont show at this point in time, I decided to give him a mohawk! He was awesome and when I could see his eyes he looked at me like " There's the momma!" haha Poor girl hope she afttens up.

All my birds have huge "poofs" but not like this. I can usually use a rubberband to keep it out of their eyes. Sometimes I trim, if I do not plan on showing them. After doing the sides of her face, I had to do the top. Its almost like "wool" (the layer of feathers closest to her skin).

Yes, she seems much happier. Her left eye won't open all the way, but I think she can see from it. Her right eye is fully open and looks clear. She seems to squint with the left eye. After all was done, she was pecking all over the tupperware. She ate for 15 mins straight, non stop. You would think that even though she couldn't see, she would have some instinct as to where the food and water was. I kept it on the ground for her for about a week (I usually use hanging feeders/waterers). Dopey bird

I do plan on breeding her, I think I need to find a roo with a smaller crest though.
