I'm a "future" chicken owner and am feeling a bit overwhelmed in getting started!! I am reading (LOTS)!! If anyone wants to point me in the right direction as to where to start??? I live in the county here in Elkhart (Northern), Indiana, so I have no ordinances or association rules to hamper, I will be warming my neighbors up to the idea, and now that Spring will be here I am getting anxious to start!

A good place to start is Here: Raising baby chicks

It looks like you have some great helpers too!

Welcome to BYC from Wisconsin. This is the place to be for those wanting to have chickens. The thread referenced above is excellent, as well as the learning center is packed with info. Never be afraid to post a question. Trust me.. there is no shortage of people here who really know what they are talking about. (I am not one of them, I just got my first chickens last year.) My one piece of advice is build your coop first and make it BIG. You will always end up with more hens eventually. I am struggling with a coop that I want to add onto already.

welcome from tonganoxie glad to have you !!!!!!!! It can be a little overwhelming but soon you will get into the groove and it will not even feel like work. Plus if you get friendly breeds you may make some great feathered friends
