Glad I found this board!

I'm now retired, live out in the country and love all types of animals. For some reason, I got the idea in my head that raising a few chickens for myself and family be would fun and interesting. I have zero experience and so if I go that route I'll heavily relying on others with experience. This morning I talked with our local grain store owner who has over 650 chickens of his own. He assured me that not only can he sell me everything I'll need but he'd also be my advisor and mentor. So, after hearing that I'm even more interested! My wife will probably be against it but after 36 years of marriage she already knows I'm kind of "goofy".

I think I want to start small, maybe 3 or 4 chickens. Fresh eggs are a favorite of mine and I understand that nothing compares to fresh free range chickens! I've got the land, but right now the idea does seem a bit daunting to me. For instance - winters up here in Minnesota are really cold and summers can get really hot. As I grow and learn I'm sure I'll have thousands of questions. I look forward to reading everything here and learning!
