Firstly I will post pictures will take some tomorrow when its light. Basically as a complete amature except having had three silver sussex hens. I bought at auction what was described as an araucana broody hen with 6 chicks cross. What I got was two which were definetly bigger and appear to be silkies, the other four one is just black, one is multicoloured black and yellow with like tiger stripes, and two are black with flashes of white/yellowy. One of them having quite a distinctive spot on it head. I have a terrible feeling that it has been a real mixed bag of someone who knew what they were doing selling me a broody with 6 hand picked cockerals. I live in a very small village and there is no way I can keep even one boy. So I would really appreciate them sexing and homes for any of them that are boys if anyone wants them in the Kendal area, Cumbria. kindest regards (Pictures in morning) and thankyou.

Have just nipped out and taken three pictures of one of the silkies. I suspect he is a Roo, as he is big, his feathers are patchy and he has a wide saddle appearance from above. However knowing nothing about silkies I dont know if they all look this patchy. Kindest regards, I really hope some one can help with these as I am really new to this.

Silkies are extremely hard to sex. This little one looks a bit young yet, but since it's definitely pet quality, you should know soon. Hopefully someone will come along who can really answer your question.

Please help havent had any def answers with these guys and they are getting bigger everyday, lol:rolleyes:

When in doubt, keep em til they crow, then dispatch them to freezer camp that same day. You may be pleasantly surprised. I've heard that it's tough to get a broody to adopt chicks that she didn't hatch, so it's likely that you got a bona fide mix of boys and girls. I doubt that it would have been successful to pick out a bunch of boys and stick them under that pullet who didn't hatch them and have her act like a mother to them. It would be unusual for that to work, I think. So probably what you have is a mama and her foster babies that she hatched, which means some will be pullets and some will be roos. They seem too young to sex for sure.
