Real Skinny Pullets =\

We were pretty much doing as you do on feeding but ours chickens aren't free range, do to our 2 dogs that would happily eat them...

We switched to a hanging feeder that has food in all the time so the little ones get food when they want too. I thought some of the little ones weren't getting the food they wanted too cause the bigger ones took it over when we would feed.

Now when I watch everyone seems to be eating and not competing for food. When we put a scoop of scratch out I put some in one pile and some in another pile away from the main pile so some of the little ones get some too. HTH.

Alright, thanks everyone! I'm going to try a gravity feeder first, and separate piles of food for the younger pullets! I'm heading off to TSC today, I'll have to pick one up. Then I suppose if they don't get some weight to them, I'll get some wormer. Thanks again for everyone's help!

When my birds were around that age, I thought they were too skinny too. I fed them plenty, food in the feeder at all times, plus they free range all day and I gave them treats on my days off. Then I realized even though they looked like they were fully feathered, when you pushed their feathers back the wrong way, there were still lots on new feather growth. I think at that age most of their calories/protein are going to growth and feather developement. They are like lanky, gawky teenagers. They won't start filling out good until their growth starts slowing down. I have 12 chickens and from what you say it sounds like you are putting out enough feed. There may be some more timid ones that wont feed with the rest, but I still think it is their age and stage of growth. Mine are 4 months old now and their feather growth is slowing down and they are putting on a little weight. Of course they are still growing, but it will start to slow down soon and I am sure they will start putting weight on then.
