First off, I'm using a hovabator 1583, the one with the wafer. It is the best bator in the world!! So I don't think it is that.

However, my quail eggs have been hatching since day before yesterday? They weren't due to hatch till today, but so far there are 30+ babies out! There also was a huge lull in hatching. I hadn't had any hatch yesterday after about 10am, and then overnight there were 18 more in the bator! I took the babies out earlier, and there is already another one hatched! Most of the hatched chicks are A&M's, but there are a few jumbos in there too. They weren't supposed to hatch till tonight.

Do A&M chicks hatch sooner than jumbo chicks?
After the first batch hatched, the humidity was really super high!! Even the ones that had already dried were wet again! I took out my sponges, and it went down to 70's. It had been 95%. Do you think this affected the other unhatched eggs? It wasn't that high for too long, but idk.

Also, there is one chick that was pipped when I moved them from the turner. It was the middle of day 15, and already there were a lot of pips, and 2 hatchlings! The one that was pipped (had a huge hole in the shell) had gotten stuck, so I decided to help it out. I guess from it struggling so much, its little legs are now messed up? Like it is laying flat on its belly with its legs stretched out behind it? Can I fix the legs, or should I just cull it?

I don't think the high humidity will have hurt the other eggs. I had my first hatch take an entire week from start to finish. Every time I was about to pull the plug on the hatch, another one would hatch.

Just wait until you've gone 3-4 days without another hatch.
My A&M hatched about the same time as the jumbos, so no, I don't think so.
You can try to fix the legs on the one, but it may be better to cull it. I'd have to see it, I guess. But you'll know after a couple of days if it's going to come around.

I'm so sorry. I hate it when they hatch with leg/foot problems!

I had actually tried to put it in a sock of my son's (he's 4) but the chick is too tiny and it wouldn't do any good. This is the first time I have hatched this many at once (107 eggs total), so I don't know if that has anything to do with it?

I just hatched a bunch of A&M's. It started 4 days ago and just ended yesterday. I think they started early to but I thought I may have just mixed the dates up. I thought that hatch took forever. I kept wanting to unplug the bator but kept waiting and kept getting more chicks.

Are you using a still air? If you fill a still air the eggs will be in different temperature gradients and incubate at different speeds. Not noticeable when you have a few eggs in the center but really noticeable if you fill from one edge to the other.

My jumbo brown roo hatched out before my a & m roo did.

I do know that roos seem to always hatch first. Someone did a study on it (not a scientist) and i've noticed it does seem to be true! LOL!

This bator is just like the 1588, but without the digital stuff. Fan, turner, picture window, the whole shebang!

My little bum-legged chick has died

I kinda figured it would.
I took all the hatched babies out last night, and one more hatched afterwards. So that one came out of the bator this morning. There was another egg pipped, so there's still hope!!

I'm up to 30 something quail chicks, so I hope I get more!

I started with 107 eggs, and lost one, so there are still many, many eggs to go!

Well, even though it looks like I'm talking to myself now, I'll still post!

It seems like these guys are hatching in waves?

I took 15 or 18 out of the bator yesterday morning, and this morning there are 15 more in there

So I might get most of them to hatch after all! I don't think I'll incubate that many at once again! Too nerve-racking!
