really confused about sick/lame? goose

hiya.. yes.. the explaining. Well.. we had a look in their paddock 3 days ago, and realised although their area/paddock is lush green.. their wasnt that much grass in there.. mainly plantains.. ALOT of plantains actually.. so we put all of our geese (the two sick boys and the healthy ones) into a paddock that we have sitting empty atm.. this paddock is full of lovely grass (and not those pesky weeds.) Very bad care on my part :( I've managed to rake and put down some new grass seed into their main area (not easy with one rake and well over 1/2 acre to do lol). I'll be keeping them in the spare paddock whilst this new grass shoots up. I also went out and got the brewest yeast, like suggested, and fed them small dosages of that, along with extra wheat in their morning feed (for protein).... seems this has perked them up!! Update aswell: both these boys are now fully walking.... they stumble now and again, but hey.. it's only been a week, these are great results... theyve gotten heaps better!! So im not sure if it was the lack of grass, lack of niacin, or probably both. :/

Thanks for letting us know. was this their only sorce of food? [the plantains] if so then it probably was lack of nutrition. So happy to hear they have just about made a complete recovery.

heya guys, internets been down for a while.. yeah i think it was lack of nutrition after all. Their paddock has alot of new grass shoots poking through now, and both the boys are incredibly fine!! they can even run now! .. only when they see the food bucket though, haha. It's so shocking, and intresting to know how this effects them in such a big way!! Good luck with getting your Geese Azhenhouse!! they'll be sweethearts im sure :D

Hi. This problem can be because of niacin deficiency. You can Brewer´s Yeast ina chemist, just the basic one, and mix it in her feed or water, it´s the niacin in it that´s important. Also give her peas, romaine lettuce, pears, those things are quite good for niacin. She should recover quite quickly if this is the problem. Or it could be Perosis, in which case she needs manganese and choline. I believe there´s something called nutri drench that has all these things in it that may well help. Hope she´s soon better.
