Hi all.. very confused here..
i just got rid of my barred rock Roo.. only bc we live in a community where homes a kinda close and he was getting really loud.. now i know i have 8 other hens.. well yesterday ... one of them started to Crow!! Is that possible>??? The Rooster just left the other day.... !

Its actually quite common

Some times even if you do have a rooster but he isn't a really dominant one.. a hen will take on the job

Some hens are more male than female.. but lay eggs...

And sometimes.. the crowing from a hen is actually her coughing because she is sick.

Also want to add and ask if the one crowing happens to be a RIR?

I had a Gold Laced Wyandotte that crowed. It was sporadic and not very loud. More like a cockeral trying to learn. She quit after a couple years.
I hope your hen doesn't cause you trouble.
