Okay so I keep having this raccoon come into my fenced area where my chickens usually hang out. So today I came home and my chickens were locked in their little fenced area and there was a a COON literally in there with them, not trying to go after them but literally eating with them? I’m just really confused at this point because he’s always around eating the chicken feed.

Yes I agree on getting rid of him, we’ve tried to shoot him plenty of times but he always runs off. I just wonder why he’s out in the middle of the day.

As mentioned by others , I'd trap that raccoon now and dispatch it to avoid damage to your chickens. You also don't want it defecating around the area your chickens live and eat. Get yourself a live trap big enough to trap him, and put a little can at the back with some feed in it. Set it up outside the pen where the chickens can't get to it. Make a little trail of feed going out the cage to the front, that leads them to the can inside to set it off. If you just scatter the bulk of it on the ground at the back of the trap instead of in something like a metal tuna can, you'll have them tipping it over and grabbing it with their paws instead. Dispatch with a .22 is the recommendation.

My chickens are also not in the fenced area anymore, they’re out free ranging away from the area the coon comes in.
