Okay, so I had a conversation about eggs with my mom over the weekend. I was under the impression that they come out the vent of the chicken and that poop came from the same place. My mother insisted that while the general location is the same, the egg comes from a different hole than the poop comes from. Please clear this up for me. From whence cometh the egg?

Chickens only have one hole. You are correct, they both come out the same external hole. The different tubes are inside the chicken and merge into one tract before passing out of the chicken.

As you can see, there's just one exit. I believe that all birds have similar anatomy, with just a cloaca (aka vent) as the exit point for both body waste and reproductive stuff.
