Really gross egg yolks! GAG!!!

The only difference in a fertilized and unfertilized egg is the size of a tiny hardly noticeable white spot. The blood spots and such don't mean they are fertilized and have nothing to do with the rooster. However if you've had a roo around the hens can lay fertilized eggs for 3weeks after the roo is removed. That's not the cause of your problem though. The blood spots come from the hens. I would think illness and stress could increase the chance for blood spots and if they are young new layers the odds would be greater.

What is a chalaza?

What is a meat spot?

I think they are under stress. They were just moved here from a real nasty situation (my opinion) so hopefully they will be feeling better & things will straighten out. I hope they don't continually get blood spots....eeeewwww!

Thanks for all your info! You guys & gals are great!

You need to check on how long to wishhold eggs with whatever it is you are treating. You should NOT be eating these eggs, nor should you be feeding them back to dogs or the chickens. Medicines can stay in their systems weeks after treatment ends. I typically wait at least 2 weeks, sometimes even 3 before eating eggs or feeding them back to my girls or dogs. GOOD LUCK! Sounds like you gave them a much nicer home! Glad they "found" you!

Do you all think the spots will go away?

Chalazae (pl?

) are the two slightly fibrous bits of tissue that suspend the yolk in the albumen so it doesn't stick to the side of the shell.
I'm glad you rescued these gals from a bad place - yay! If they have had a rough go of it, that could indeed be contributing to the egg spots.
Then again, some hens are just more prone to laying those eggs than others. My husband is very picky, and he never eats a spotty egg. I'm far less so - I just scoop out the spot and scramble up the rest (or I give it to the dog).
I agree with the folks above about holding off on eating the eggs until the meds have cleared their systems.
