Really Nasty Poo**WARNING!! GRAPHIC, DISGUSTING & PIC HEAVY**

ohter members might have specific suggestions from where to purchase (I am in Holland) but I do know it is available online for purchase so just google and compare prices...
The following article has specific dosage info but do use the spot-on method opposed to it being in the waterer (both methods are described in the article):
http://shilala.homestead.com/ivomec.html
I will go ahead and excerpt that one dosage section:
"....What dosage rate do you use???

One cc is equal to one ml.

Eprinex's suggested dose rate for cattle is 1 ml per 22 pounds of body weight.

I have seen dosage rates recommended for birds that go from 2cc per bantam to 5cc per bantam, and everything in between. That is completely wrong.

If you use a ratio, pound for pound, The proper dosage is

.5 cc (ml) - Large Fowl

.25 cc (ml) - Bantam

.....How do I apply Ivomec to my birds???

On Skin - It's as simple as measuring the proper dosage and squirting it behind the bird's neck, between the shoulder blades. You want to make sure it reaches the skin because Eprinex is absorbed through the skin into a bird's system.

The other reason for this placement is that the bird can't reach this spot with his head. If the dose is placed under the wing or on the breast (as I've heard it suggested) the bird can easily rub away the Eprinex with it's head feathers making it less than effective. Put the dose where it will give you the best results...."

Hi Dianne - I don't want to jump in uncecessasrily because you know far more about health care of chickens than I'll ever know - BUT you did notice the post that said two months ago they gave them wormer for two weeks?

If they had wormer for two weeks, two months ago, would you still advise that he/she administer another wormer at this point, given that the fecal showed negative?

I thought all your other advice was perfect but I wouldn't recommend giving more wormer at this point.

Hi Ruth!
My suggestion was that they not medicate further and see how it goes after supplementation for a few weeks...and then IF it seemed that worms were still an issue (implying another faecal...not all internal parasites will show up on a faecal and I have also seen several vets comment on false negatives from faecals also >see reply #13 the following thread where her vet also tells her that one negative faecal does not mean that the bird does not have worms:

>>>if internal parasites still seemed a candidate for the problems >then to consider it (after a few weeks nutritional support and supplementation). The member had specifically asked about a broad spectrum wormer (the one that they had given only was effective on one type of worm) and the info posted (Eprinex) was to adress that specific requested information.
I fully understand how you could be confused as to what my suggestion was as it certainly was not to give the ivomec Eprinex at this point and time. Thanks !

Thanks for clarifying - I just wanted to be sure Chickaroo knew that you weren't suggesting that they give more medication right now. Kind of got worried when they asked where to buy it and seemed to think they were going out to get some right then.

So, Chickaroo, follow Diane's advice and hold off on any more medication right now. Give it a couple of weeks and then do another fecal if necessary. I would also still ask my vet why he recommended two weeks dosage of Wazine and what internal problems that might have caused.

... most definitely!!!
(p.s. >while you were posting answer I was editing and added a link to a post where a members vet explains that one negative faecal does not mean the bird has no worms)

I definately will not worm them for awhile to see how that goes. I let them free range (supervised) for about 2 1/2 hrs. today. I did go right out and buy more organic plain yogurt and put two small bowls of it in the run for them.
You know, when I got them, they were free range birds. Do you think that's why they are having problems?

no... mine free range and I believe the birds have a beter quality of life ... however with regards to worms and some diseases they do have a higher incidence than cage birds or those in a more restricted (controlled) environment.

So now it's day 3 since the first post of the really nasty poo. I've been letting the chickens have supervised free-range for a couple of hours a day and continued with the organic yogurt/rice mixture. They're poo is looking alot better!!!!
