Really Really Really Strange Egg!

I am not sure where to post this, but this seemed the most appropriate place.

One of my hens, a Buff Orpington I think, laid a HUGE egg. I measured it. With a tape measure. It was 8 inches by 10 inches.

So I candled it, thinking wow, I wonder if this is a triple yolker or something, but I couldn't really see much inside it, just a big dark blob, not two or three yolks.

So I kept it around for a few days, and today I decided to feed it to the dogs. The dogs looked real hungry.

So I cracked it open and guess what! There was a yolk in there, and white, of course--AND ANOTHER EGG! INSIDE IT! A whole other egg, shell, yolk, white, everything.

Has anyone else heard of this?

It's too bad you didn't have pictures! I've heard of an egg in an egg & a double yolk-er, but not like that!

I've seen pictures on here of eggs inside other eggs, so it's been known to happen. Did you get a picture of it before you gave it to the dogs?

No, I am sorry, I didn't take a pic because first my camera has died. It was terminal for a long time but now, well, dead. I am getting a Canon Powershot!

And also of course because I fed it to the dogs.

My poor daughter just had a baby after a LONG and difficult labor and delivery. I have been wondering if she might like to send my poor hen a sympathy card.

Actually, they all look ok. I was looking around to see if any of the hens looked ill, but apparently she took it in stride.

My Lucy an EE has layed those a few times... Kind of scary ?

Watch your girl to make sure she gets back to normal Lucy was whacked for awhile. I had to give her a sitz bath and message her to help the egg down.. it was so big.

I have seen this many times now and it happens mostly to the newer layers. It's way cool though!

I got one just yesterday... you can see the egg inside the half hard shell, half soft shell egg. Also, I must add... I have a Del trio together... I got 3 eggs in one day. Explain. Not just one day either... every other day I get 3, and inbetween I get one. Is one hen holding out until it's worth her while?!??! lol. Probrably the same hen that laid this one.
