Really Sad Question

Did not know that about pumpkin. I'll have to write that down.

Any greens or treats we give them are just a few a day. Well, I say just a few but with each person giving it to them separately they've gotten spoiled but I don't think enough so that I would hurt them. I mean I would split a handful of clover between four rabbits. And I think we all felt sorry that they were outside in the heat so they ended up getting more treats because we'd go out there more to check on them. They'd only get lettuce and stuff from inside very rarely. Mostly it was greens growing outside like the clover.

So it's doubtful it's anything that could be passed to the other rabbits I hope? Most likely just heat? I really don't want to lose anymore of my bunnies or have any other of our animals getting sick. This is making me realize just how little I really know about my buns.

actually lettuce so long as its the dark greens like romain lettuce are very good for rabbits though not as a staple diet but a small amount daily is fine. and although ice berg lettuce is not good to feed them a tiny bit here and there wont hurt them its not becuase its toxic its becuase it has no nutritional value and eating it over long periods of time will deplete there systems. it was probably good you were feeding the lettuce. i doubt it had anything to do with hair ball since hair balls will clog the system not allowing anything to pass. rabbits can become dehydrated VERY quickly and once they stop drinking theres very little you can do some people reccomend adding small amounts of apple or carrot juice to there water to intice them to drink. more then likely there was somthing that caused the runny poos and with the ehat caused the dehydration and death i highly doubt it was the lettuce unless she was given large amounts( more then normal) im very sorry for your loss!! pumpkin is a good cure for tummy issues canned no spices and if you worry about hairballs try mixing pineapple juice (about a teaspoon per cup) into the drinking water every week or two pineapple will help clear up hairballs

Yes, dark green lettuce is okay to feed your rabbit in moderation. Its the iceburg lettuce that folks say its that great to feed. But you CAN feed them it, in small amounts.

The thing with "in moderation" leaves it up the owner to determine what moderation is. Which is why we feed NO lettuce at all. There is no reason to stray from pellets and timothy hay. Their digestive systems are so delicate, why take the chance?

Yep, its totally up to the owner. I've fed ALL my rabbits lettuce as treats and had no problems at all. But thats not to say that YOU wont have a problem though.
Just saying that lettuce isnt deadly nor toxic.

honestly I would say it may simply be the heat. I have lost more rabbits to heat then anything else, this would explain why she perked up when you brought her in , then declined with the temp rise. Some are more touchy to the heat then others. Sorry you lost her though, it is always hard.
