Even though it's winter half of my hens are laying. The other day I collected the egss and one was perfectly formed but soft like jello. the egg inside was perfectly normal. Any idea? Have never seen that before.

Is it possible she has just started laying? It's pretty common, especially when they first start to lay. If it were a regular thing, you might need to feed more calcium, but since it is a rare thing, they are probably getting enough calcium, just a freak egg. Nothing to get alarmed about unless it becomes a regular thing.

I'll give you a link to the egg quality handbook which discusses it some. It might set your mind at ease.
