10 straight run chicks. I am down to 5 today. (Giving away the roos) And three decided to crow today. REally? I only got 2 hens from 10 chicks. For goodness sakes!

It can happen. I've got 5 and still playing a guessing game at 8 weeks on a couple of them. I'm really only sure that one of them is a hen. Then there's another that probably is a hen but I'm still undecided.

And one Beautiful, sweet boy that I SO want to keep! I can legally keep a rooster with no problems with the law but I don't want to make the neighbors mad with the crowing. None have crowed yet that I know of but I'm playing a waiting game here.

Oh no!

I'm still waiting to find out what mine are. I hope at least 2 of my 4 are pullets.

you can get just pullets if you wanted hens but st run is the game to see how many hens you get well thats all i have to say there hope it helps

I have had this similar issue several issues and decided to make sure not to get straight run again.

I had too many roos and thought I would scream when they woke me up at 4 am just cause they decided hey I can bug ppl and animals alike....my dogs would wake up and glare with me.

That is just pure bad luck. I've hatched eggs and gotten results close to that, but to make you feel extra bad, mine was mostly pullets. I wanted that batch for eating, so I really wanted roosters. Hopefully those two are goof pullets.

sounds like you all need to just get pullets then well thats one reason that my fam dont want a roo so he dont wake everyone up that early

Mine are hatched so it's not like I could pick the eggs that had pullets in them

If I were buying, I wouldn't go with straight run unless that's all I could get. I suspect most that get straight run have that problem.

I once got 7 straight run from Cackle. All 7 were pullets. I think whether you get more roosters than pullets when ordering straight run is large part luck and large part the ethics of the specific hatchery. Not all hatcheries are run by ethical people, but some are.

I saw a straight run bin of Barred Rocks at TSC yesterday. The ones that were left were heavily frosted and I wondered who would be the lucky person to buy a bunch of them and get zero pullets.
