I had two bantam eggs in a home made incubator. They were ebay eggs, originally 6, of which one was scrambled on arrival, and the other three were clear at day five. They weren't even fertilised when opened. So then there were two.
Today, day 12, I candles again and found one of them had a bloodring, so I removed and opened it. The embryo looked to have died on day 7 or 8. The last egg looks like it is doing well. So my question is what is the most likely cause of the embryo dying at day 7-8?
I've heard bacterial contamination or shaking the eggs can be the cause of early in shell death. This egg had smears of poop on it when it came in the mail. Apart from that I handled both of the eggs the same way and the same amount, washing my hands every time. Could it have been temperature related because I did have a spike to 104 at one point, for maximum one hour, and the egg that quit was positioned in the Bator slightly closer to the heat source. I have a fan in there but there are hotter areas. What does anyone think?
