Ran into a lady today who was going to sell me a free range chicken to raise. She couldn't catch the one we were originally going to get so she asked if I wanted the broody one on her nest. She said I could have the fetilized eggs she was sitting on for free. I accepted! Took the bird and the eggs home.
I put the eggs into her new nest and now the hen won't go anywhere near the eggs. Did I just kill the fertilized eggs by removing the hen from her eggs to bring to my home?
Any suggestions?

Im a new chicken owner, only had meat birds so far. I wanted to try raising them for the eggs.

You can confine the chicken with the eggs in a closed box for a couple of days to see if she will sit. Only let her out for 20 minutes per day to poop and eat and drink. The hen in the box, not an eggbox! A crate will do or a cardboard box. I expect the upheaval of the move upset her. New place, new people. She needs to settle in.

Just an update. The momma did eventually sit on the nest (yay!) and today we had 5 of the 7 eggs hatched. I was SO excited. Thanks for your help!
