Wow, that is a very pretty picture! New Mexico?? Looks like our territory. We are suffering out a 10 year long drought that is really doing damage to our wildlife, plant life and water wells. But we will get thru it. We are pretty tough out here. LOL Gorgeous pic!!!

Thanks TwoCrows. That was taken along I-10 just getting ready to cross over from Arizona into New Mexico (Chiricahua territory) this past December. I had stopped for fuel and the moon was just popping up over the mountains. I'm originally from Chandler Arizona and was on my way from the NFR in Las Vegas to Houston Texas.

I have almost 3 acres that they free-ranged on until last fall when a hawk killed one of my Marans hens and the neighbors dog killed 4. I increased their pen to 100 feet by 40 feet with a 5 foot high fence that they free-range in now. They were in the pen when the last one was taken on Friday. I have 5 roosters but the hawk still was successful.

I was worried about that happening too so we added bird netting over the yard my hens stay in when I am at work. Of course their yard is not nearly so large as yours. The hawk could slice through it with their sharp beak and claws but it would slow it down enough to give my hens time to take cover inside the hen house. Nothing is fool (predator) proof but we just do the best we can to protect them and hope for the best. I have pics on my profile page if you want to look.
