Recently purchased layer feed from a n farm that sells feeds and has great reviews.

My friends say it’s trash cuz it’s mainly powder. Is this what good feed looks like or not. Is it indeed too powdery?

That is what it should look like. I've been feeding my local co-op's version most of the time for three and a half years. The hens have trouble picking up the finest parts when it is dry so I like to stir some water into it a couple of times a week. My hens like it both dry and as a wet mash.

Ty for answering that’s what I’ve been doing because they eat the big chunks and leave the powder.

What's the ingredients? That food is a mash, supposed to be served wet or fermented. :]

Yes, feed as a mash.

No, you can't tell good feed by looking at it. You can sometimes tell fresh (or not) by the smell. But look to mill dates first.

What does the guaranteed nutrition label say?

Agreed just wet it problem solved. I feed mashes to many of my animals. The water helps soften things up which is often more palatable for animals, makes sure anything in powder form isn’t wasted and is extra hydration.
