Recieved my 100 Broilers and a pic of their house

Quote:
That's a great price.I have a batch coming from MMM this week. They have great stock but you'll pay for it.I tried a few others but everybody seemed booked out and for my area I'll be pressed for time.I'm hoping for an indian summer.
I don't kill my own,I use a processor but if you have to,use a cone or tie their feet up with a rope and hang them from their feet right after you axe them so they can't thrash around and bruise up the meat hitting things.
Good luck with the meat birds, your family will love them for sure. Will

I know that my family here with me will love them due to the fact that I raised non-finiky kids. I am not going to tell my extended family that they are home-grown chickens until after the dinner

just to see if they say anything about the taste first.

This will be my first time at this so I am ready to see what its gonna be like.

I can use all the input and advice that I can get, so keep it coming.

O.K. arrival day is tomorrow and I have built a home for them outside. I cannot keep these birds in the house so I am wondering if it will be o.k. to keep them in the large place that I have built. Will post pics later.

Just picked up my broilers from the Post office and Meyer Hatchery sent 105 heathly and nice looking birds. I am very pleased with the order. Now, to get these little stinkers outside is another story

I raised Meyer's cornish cross this year too. The roo's DRESSED at nine lbs at eight weeks. Hens dressed at an average of seven and a half. Fed them Purina Broiler Show Chow for the entire time they were on this earth as well as the vitamin package that Meyer sells. Very pleased with the little devils. Only lost one, no clue why, at three weeks.

Keep us posted!

Boy, you did get a great price - i think that my 50 from MMM ran about 86.00. But they are doing fine and growing fast.

Redtie - did you feed them 24/7 to get them to dress out that big? I am holding back the feed at night to keep them from getting too big and die on me. i feel sorry for them tho, as they are ravenous in the mornings and am afraid that it may be doing as much harm as it is good - as they stuff as much as they can down then.

i am considering getting a few turkeys in the spring and trying them out too.

Blueskylen, I did feed 24/7 for about the first five weeks. Then, because it was so hot (we were processing in early August) I cut them back. Fed at 8 am until about 11am. Keep the crop empty during the heat of the day, then fed them at about 5pm. At the 5 pm feeding they ate ALOT. I think the real difference in the size came from using the Broiler Show Chow. They were beautiful birds.

Beware the turkeys.....

I got some this year in June. Processed three today. The hardest thing I have ever had to do. They are smart, friendly and fun. Look out for the attachement factor.....can't seem to help myself. Chickens, no problem, turkeys....another story.

I sure wish you guys and gals could herar all of these little chirping bugers.

Redties--Where did you get the Purina show chow? I have only found one place here in my area that even seel 24% protein feed.

It's funny, when I look in the box all I see is chicken nuggets running around.
