recieved our deathlayer eggs, theyre tiny!!

i got our eggs in the mail and boy are those eggs tiny. the internet said they have medium sized eggs. we have icelandics and theyre eggs are a bit on the small side and the deathlayer eggs are noticeaby smaller. anyone here have deathlayers that can give their opinion on this? is this the breed standard?

Hi josie, I've no experience with Deathlayers but found this:

"The Deathlayer hen will lay an egg that will weigh 1.7 – 2.3 oz (50 – 60 g)."

How odd that would make them medium size. The eggs we got are small for sure smaller than the icelandic eggs

It's possible you were sent pullet eggs

It could. Pullet eggs are smaller, so there is less room and yolk for the embryo. Plus puppets usually are still working out kinks in they're reproductive system

The breeding standard for hatching eggs of Deathlayers (Westfälische Totleger) are 53g. If they don't way close to that you probably want to address that with the seller.
