Not a great success rate on my first hatch. My incubator is very fussy and high maintenance!!! Didnt get much sleep worrying about temperatures drastically changing! Anyway - I want to try again - so I would love to hear some recomendations on which incubator to invest in (but cant afford The Sportsman!)

A home-made incubator requires quite a bit of fussing.
An electronically controlled incubator is your best bet, be it an affordable Hovabator Genesis 1588 or a Brinsea incubator, which I have heard are quite good.

We've gone through the LG and the HovaBator. We're on the Brinsea Advanced and so far love it! Totally idiot proof, which is what we needed. I can trust the temp and humidity levels are good and just walk away. No more sleepless nights and running to the bator every 30 minutes, scared of a temp hike or dip.

Brinsea octagon eco ! Rock stable temperature - just add water once a day and that is it ! I am don't have any temperature fluctuations and our outside temp has been up and down like 20 degrees over the course of the day...
It is $99 without the auto turner - but you don't eally need the turner- you don't have to turn the eggs individually- you just turn the entire thing on it's side ...
I am in love with this one ( can you tell? )

If you want to be part of the in crowd get a Genisis 1588, other wise you can be an outsider with the rest of us.

Check out the Brinsea Eco 20. It keeps rock steady temperatures and humidity is easy to maintain. I got the autoturner, too. I really recommend this incubator. I got 100% hatch on shipped eggs!

I want to put in another word for the Brinsea Eco. I love mine so far

Still waiting for my first hatch, but 14/18 shipped eggs (that the PO took a week to deliver from 1 state away) and 10/10 of my own Hamburgs are developing very well. Holds perfect temp and humidity is easy as well. It is much quieter than my OLD as dirt forced air hova, which is important to me because the only safe place in my house is my bedroom and I am a very light sleeper. Even the autoturn cradle makes very little noise.

LOVE IT!
