Recommendations on Auto Chicken Door

Quote:
How tall is this from the groung to the higest point of the whole set up?

From the ground to the top is 58" H x 24" Wide

From the ground to the bottom of the door is 13.5" H (for deep litter method, so none of the shavings get kicked out)

The Door Opening is 13" H x 12" W (we have Orpingtons, Austuralorps, Buff Brahmas, & Guinea fowls. They all do fine going through the door).

The Slide Door is 15.5" H x 14.25" W. We have the slide door stopping at 41" H.

Thanks my husband wasn't sure if our coop was tall enough.

No problem! I just hope it helps!

I can see it has been a year since the last post in this thread and I see a couple new automatic doors have come on the market. I think the one that is best is www.AdorStore.com though it just came out in 2012.

I've heard people say they love it and it is very well built. Personally, I agree it is very well designed. It is made totally out of galvanized steel! Industrial strength. And it is smart, too. Its like a garage door opener... if it comes down on something it will reverse and try again.

On the website they say after cycling it for 35 years... meaning 365 multiplied by 35 cycles... it has no visible wear and tear. So if you are still looking, check out the website... but you missed the boat on the introductory price... it came out at a surprising $129. The price has gone up but still, the other doors are more expensive.

I've recently updated my door to plexi glass and it works a lot better than the wood, obviously.... haha
I also put a momentary contact switch, just in case if any chickens or guineas happen to be under the door. But I have the door closing 45 mins after dark, so usually non of them are ever underneath the door.

At my house in the Philippines I have an automatic coop door opener too. His name is Bernie.

I very impressed with the door opener made with a car antenna motor. I saw a thread with the German model door opener that costs more than my whole chicken enterprise and thought there has to be a home grown way - glad someone else came up with it. Now I can get back to thinking about how to bring about world peace. Kudos to the innovators out there.

If Bernie just opened the coop door, he would be out of a job.
