I've been "winging it" with the first few groups and have had pretty good luck. We're entering our rainy season now and things are getting more interesting. My latest batch of birds is just plum ugly right now. They're 10 days old today and I suspect they were a bit too chilled the first few nights with heavy rains outside. Now, at 10 days of age, I'm still not seeing any of them panting.
My brooder is a converted outdoor bathroom. Once it's up to temp, it seems to hold pretty steady. During our dry season or summer, the birds were panting within a few days and I'd have to lower temps by circulating air with a fan. Of course, as they grew and their body size increased, so did the inside temps. Their normal stay time in the brooder was 10 - 13 days depending on the number of chicks and ambient conditions.
What are the recommended temps for new meat bird chicks for their first couple of weeks in the brooder?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
