Recommended Hatcheries

I have only used Murray McMurry and do not recommend them! The first order I received 3 roosters when only one was ordered. The second time I expected them to get it better. Again I got 3 roosters when I ordered NONE! Also I wanted 3 black stars and 3 red stars. They sent me 7 red stars and I ordered 3 speckled Sussex and only got one. I have heard Meyer is pretty good.

That’s a shame. I actually had a very nice experience with Murray McMurray. But then again, that was about 4 years ago.

Cackle is pretty good for a hatchery, also had good luck with Meyer hatchery.

I feel like it's sort of a crap shoot. You can't trust buying from tractor supply or your local feed store, and the "professional" hatcheries don't seem to get it right either! You just take your chances and hope that it's right! Good Luck!

I ordered chick's and ducklings from a hatchery. Had to pay two different shipping cost. They were shipped in two different boxes with only one tracking number . The Post office was only available to find one box which had the ducks in it when I went to pick them up. I left my phone number incase they found the chicks.
I called, left messages and emailed hatchery with on follow up.
4 hours later after I returned to work the post office delivered them and left them sitting on my front porch in direct sunlight. The front door was open and the screen door was closed while my son waited for delivery. They couldn't even ring the doorbell.
Next time I'll make a day trip and go get them.
For what I paid in shipping it shouldn't be that stressful.

I purchased from Meyer Hatchery, think we have one Cockerel but have to wait the agreed time before confirming. They were great with my experience. I used them because of recommendation and they were close for a short mail trip.

Ordering from one as close to you as possible would be my recommendation...

I’ve done mail order chicks a long time ago and all went well... but these days I’d prefer to drive to a local Hatchery and pick them up.

It is also important to look into the specifics of each hatchery’s policies to help you decide. For example, if you are planning on ordering just a few chicks, you can probably rule out ordering from any hatchery with a 25 chick minimum.
