Need advice please on diagnosis and treatment: 4-year old campine hen. Attacked 36 hours ago by coyote. We came out just in time, scared off coyote. She ran, then fell over, comb bluish, legs straight. we held her, color returned, and she walked/ran normally--we thought.

Yesterday, we noticed left wing hangs lower. No completely dragging, but lower. Some suggest wrapping. Bought supplies for that. I felt the wing. No obvious signs of broken bones; no blood. She is VERY skittish, and when traumatized, she loses weight, feathers (thus the name: Shaggy) but eventually, weeks later, rebounds.

She's still together with a small flock (4 in total) of 3 other hens. They don't bother her. She was formerly the boss; they are younger by 2 years. She does drink water, and will eat meal worms.

This morning, noticed slow, rhythmic opening and closing of the beak, perhaps in time with breathing?

Any ideas/advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

She might have been squeezed and has some internal injuries or is dehydrated. Do you have any Poultry NutriDrench or electrolytes, Gatorade, etc to offer her? Try some bits of scrambled egg and a small amount of watery chicken feed. I would probably leave the wing alone unless she is tripping over it. If it needs wrapped, you can lightly wrap it to her body in a normal position. Does she have any puncture or other wounds that may have been hidden? Is she passing droppings? Watch for any bullying while she is not well, and separate if needed.

Hello: Thanks for your note and valuable advice.

I need a new bottle of nutridrench--will get that today, thanks. Along with scrambled egg bits. We gave her some yogurt via syringe.

No visible puncture wounds, We've separated her--a mid-sized dog kennel crate, placed in the coop, and near-ish to a heater--temps here now dipping into freezing.

Does appear to have passed some droppings--cleaned the kennel.

On others' advice, gave a few drops of children's motrin, and I have some tetracycline powder. Mixed a batch of that for the water, and also gave a few drops directly, via syringe.

She seems ok, rhythmic opening and closing continues, and there is an audible wheeze or whistle on inhale/exhale.

Will hold off on the wrapping for now, and provide another update tomorrow, or if things change. Thanks again.
