Rectal Prolapse in young chick. ***warning.......vivd photos

So nothing I'm doing is working. I put the "parts" back in place and hold it for ten minutes and not even 30 minutes later....it's back out again. This is day three. Is there even any hope of it staying in at this point? :( :(

I haven't had such a bad case of prolapse before. It can be frustrating to treat a chicken with a prolapse. All I can suggest is that you have some patients, and try to read all you can about other's experiences. Many people do get frustrated, and decide to end their chicken's suffering. A lot of it depends on how much time you have to give to trying to fix the problem. Many are not able to treat a sick chicken due to work and family responsibilities. Here is the search page for prolapsed vents where you can read other's experiences with this: https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=prolapsed+vent

Coris, AmproMed or Amprol can be used. If you decide to treat, treat for a severe outbreak.

Thanks everyone. She's stilll hanging in there. She is doing good though. Otherwise very healthy. I'll keep trying. The swelling has gone way down and the whole area looks much better.

That is good to hear. Let us know how she is doing in a few more days. Good luck.

Thought I would update everyone. She is doing great! I kept her inside for a few weeks, and continued to work with her. I put her back out a few days ago and she is a happy chick again! Thanks everyone for helping me out with this. I'm so glad I didn't give up on her. I'm not sure how well she will do once she starts laying, but hopefully since she still has months to go, she will be ok.
