So, not a coop but a brooder. I had 14 new chicks coming my way and the Rubbermaid tote I used for the last 6 wasn't going to cut it. I got smart this time and decided to build the brooder BEFORE my chicks arrived. For anyone interested, we went with "fancy chickens" this go around (our others are mutts!): 1 Barred Rock, 2 Mottled Houdans, 3 Silver Laced Polish, 1 Sultan, 2 Black Frizzle Cochins, 2 Blue Mille Fleur D'Uccle, 2 Black Silkies, 2 White Silkies, & 2 Blue Silkies.
What do you think? I know she ain't perdy, but she works!

We have a shed in the backyard (kept the last ones in the garage but I really wanted use of my garage this time):

It needed to be cleaned out (note the cracked kiddie pool a friend got for us out of their neighbors garbage):

Wrapping it with various wire/fencing we had stored in the shed:

All done and waiting for new chicks:

The chicks are here!

They seem to like their new home! I turned the light off pretty much right away, it's HOT out there. We'll probably just turn it on at night. We had the feeders, waterers, and light in the shed already.

The only one with a name so far, Avenger (because he's masked...):
