What's all this about oyster shells, my friends? Are we simply tying to increase our expenses so tat eggs which we raise for a dollar and pop and sell for a quarter can now cost EVEN MORE?!

My birds get their own eggshells, dried and ground, back as scratch for calcium. Works great. Never bought calcium when they are excreting it daily in the perfect, most usable form. Long s theyre dried and ground, the birdies dont make the connection with those round things they lay and cackle about, so we've had no trouble with cannibalism.

Any other reason for calcium that I should know or do you guys just LIKE spending your hard earned yen at the feed store?

Mine get calcium in their Layena and they get their egg shells back too

Well the dogs sometimes get the eggshells since I toss them in the blender whole if I am cooking some for them

It would take ALOT of eggshells to equal the calcium in oyster shell. I feed mine the shells back in addition to the oyster shell, but I did see somewhere a comparison of how much calcium they get from one versus the other. It was much less with eggshells.

I quit feeding mine oyster shells since it didn't work all that well. I add D.E. to my feed and I do occasionally feed shells back to them.

even though i have never had a problem i still buy oyster shells for my girls. I am one of those people that don't want to wait for a problem to hppen if I can prevent it first. Frm what I have seen they go a long way anyway.
