Not long ago, I had some ant beds in my yard and someone suggested putting instant grits on the mounds. Believe or not, the ants disappeared and have not come back. It killed them quickly. I am sure if you sprinkle dry INSTANT grits around the area it will work. Just don't let the quail eat the grits. Grits apparently swell up in the ants stomachs and kill them. Might do the same thing to the quail if they ate too much.
I don't use chemicals around my garden and this was a big help to use something more natural to kill the ants.
