The subject line says my question. I want to know if I breeds a red barred(dominique pattern not barred rock pattern) roo over Dominique hens would all F1 be red barred or would I get some regular barreds too. Any info would be greatly apprieciated. This is some pictures of the rooster I am wanting to use.

I'm not sure what you would get. But that rooster has pretty coloring for sure. I wish I could answer that! Why not try it and see?

Thank you both. I appreciate your help greatly. I am wondering if anyone knows what would be best to cross him to to create red barred.

I am NO genetics expert, but playing with this calculator thing, looks like you might have some success if you crossed him to a Partridge rock hen

I cant seem to get it to copy/paste....but look at it using a red barred male and PR hen

Unless I am missing something, there is no difference from the barring on a Dominique to that of a Barred Rock. And if that rooster is part Dominique, then he's not an F1 cross. Plus, he would most likely have a rose comb, though it's still possible for him to have a single comb. IMO, he looks like he has some Rhode Island Red in him because of the dark primaries and sickle feathers.

The guy I bought him from said that this roo's dad is a New hampshire red and Mom was a Dominique. And the man had no reason to lie I was gonna buy him before I asked. So I figure his mom is a Heterozygous(sp?) for single comb as many of the dominiques in this area. But I am no expert. And yes you are right the barring gene is the same in Dominiques and Barred rocks but Good barred rocks (Non hatchery quality) should be slow feathered causing crisper bars if I understand corectly if I am wrong feel free to correct me. What I ment when I mentioned Dominique Patteren I was refering to the fact that he does not have crisp barring . Sorry for rambleing and any confusion I was just trying to clerify. Thank you for your help and any more info would be gladly welcome. I am wanting to replicate his red barring pattern so any advice on that would be appreciated and thanks to all who replied already and those to come. Thanks.

Do you want the bird to have a more blurred pattern or the crisper barring?

If you want tidy barred red offspring cross him onto either RIR or New Hampshire.

For more more of the cuckoo look you might need to cross into red leghorns for a couple of generations in order to be sure of rapid feathering genes.

I'm surprised he has the more blurred pattern maybe he already has rapid feathering?

Thank you very much. I like the more blured barring myself. And thank you very much for the help. Do you think if I was to cross a dominique rooster over Rhode island Red hens and Cross this Rooster over Production reds and red sexlinked hens. Then take the red barred offspring and cross over the Dominique mixes that it would make the red Barreds while keeping the blured Dominique like pattern. Any info on this appreciated.
