Red Barred roo over dominique hens what results would I get.

He looks like one of my early barred rhode island red. You will get barred black and black if you cross him with a dominique. I would not cross the barred male on dominique. Your bird is most likely heterozygous (split) for columbian; I believe he only carries one columbian gene. If you want more like him, cross him with another black tailed red. Half of the offspring should have similar barring.

You can get rapid feathering stock if a hatchery feather sexes their black-tailed red chicks. The females will be rapid feathering.

You can produce your own rapid feathering female hybrids by crossing a black tailed red hen on a red leghorn male. The body type of the offspring will be on the small size much like a leghorn. You could regain the body size in a few crosses with dual purpose fowl.

There is a difference in the barring. I found a website one time that explained in detail what the difference was but now I can't find it. I'll keep looking.

The cuckoo effect is due to the barring gene but with rapid feathering which gives a blurred effect.
Barring on late feathering gives a more definite bar & if also with columbian gives a tight straight bar as in exhibition types.

I know as far as appearance there is, but I was talking genetic wise.

If I'm not mistaken that site had something about genetics too. I really wished i could find it.

I'd be interested in reading it.

Cuckoo effect: E/E, B/B (B/-), co+/co+, k+/k+ (k+/-)

Exhibition quality barring: E/E, B/B (B/-), Co/Co, K/K (K/-).

The rate of feathering alleles makes the difference between cuckoo & barred. Columbian gene makes the difference between hatchery barred birds & tidy exhibition barred birds.
