In exactly a week I am getting my sexlink chicks. Likes and Dislikes please.. Also pictures if you have them. Thanks, Hannah

I have both and absolulety love them, they are friendly and great layers! I got 3 of each last year and got 13 more this year, I enjoy them that much!

I really like mine. They were my first chickens, and they are egg-laying machines!
The batch I got last spring have been only missed a couple days since starting to lay in mid-Sept. 2010.
They are very friendly and sweet, and I'm trying one of the "black stars" this year.

Thanks so much for your opinions

and I hope the ones that come from welp grow into pretty birds+ being great layers

I have 4 Red Sex Links and love them! They really are egg laying machines. I get an egg a day from them most of the time. And they are pretty birds, as well.

Here's a picture of all four from this winter:

We have 16 Black Stars and we love them. They are great layers, and are friendly and curious. Some people say because they are hybrids bred specifically for laying that they "burn out" faster, and I suppose that's true. But we have no complaints and will definitely order more when we need them.

I have one black and one red, great birds! Although my one Rhode Island Red out layed them all winter

Check out my chicken page here for photos! Sarah is the red/gold, and Pru is the blck, beautiful colors!!!

My reds typically outlay the black. Not by much, but noticeable. Red seem more oriented toward people. Blacks were larger birds and seemed more cold hardy. Not surprising, since they have Barred Rock in them. Black also must sustain the larger size with slightly more feed intake.

There are sooooo many "custom blends" of these, blacks and especially the reds. The reds tend toward their RIR parentage while the blacks tend to favor either their Barred Rock parentage or Australorp, if that is what was used. Solid egg layers all and that's what's important because that was the objective of the breeding program that creates them.

I have 6 Black Sexlinks that I got from Welp last September. Great birds, very friendly and awesome layers. Most of my birds have a lot of red/golden feathers on their chests and backs. Here's a pic of one of the girls.

Wow....I hadn't noticed how much bigger their combs are until I just looked at the picture. I'll try to take some new ones this weekend.
