Grabbed a chick from the local feed store, the box even said Rhode Island Red but no hatchery name, anyways I was reading about sex-links and how some combinations have chicks with dots on their head. That got me wondering if my new 3 week-old is a RIR or not... She has a dark dot on the top of her head. Does anyone know if that means she could be some knd of sex-link instead?

I don't think Red Sex-Links have dots on their heads. As far as pure RIR can't say for sure I have never dealt with many RIR. They are on my list to get later.

I'm also curious about this. I have a supposed RIR pullet with the same spot. Wondering if its a sex-link thing, or i've read some roos have a black dot, but I don't know enough about it....HEre's a pic of the chick in question
