Honestly, that red that early is looking like a boy.I got these chicks yesterday and they should be about a week old and one of my polish has a very red comb. Is that normal for it to be so red at that age? Please tell me it’s not a roo![]()
Idk sometimes it’s really bright red and it turns lighter. It keeps switching between the twoThat is unusual. Is it always like that, or could the chick just have been flushed at the moment? If it is always like that then you probably have a boy on your hands.
In that case, I would wait until it is older to decide. Some chicks are more prone to getting flushed than others.Idk sometimes it’s really bright red and it turns lighter. It keeps switching between the two
these are some more pictures of the same chick/same day. Is it just flushed then? What does flush mean? Like blushing? In that case, I would wait until it is older to decide. Some chicks are more prone to getting flushed than others.
kind of, yeah. One of the functions of combs is heat regulation. When a bird is hot they increase blood flow through the extremities, especially the comb and wattles which have lots of little blood vessels very close to the surface of the skin. The increased blood flow caused the comb and wattles to flush, or turn red.these are some more pictures of the same chick/same day. Is it just flushed then? What does flush mean? Like blushing?
