Hi, weird question... If chickens are attracted to, or frustrated by red, why are combs red, and why do chickens leave combs and waddles alone.... if that's the case?

I have a beautiful Barnvelder and she injured her comb... and of course, the rest are highly curious and pecking. Yet, they all have red combs... is it just blood, or the color red??

Sorry to be bold, but the red thing is really bothering me. They all have red, at least mine do, and no pecking, until blood surfaces???

I had a chicken peck at one of my chicks till she had pecked a hole on his skin which was when i found him. Also i noticed they seem to be atracted to blood not red. Because if i have a injured chicken i have to separate them or the others will keep pecking at the bloody area. That is my experience at least.

Thank you for your reply. :)
