Hello! I have a couple Golden Comet chicks, and one of them has a small red dot where her beak meets her face. She acts normally, aside from when she first woke up this morning, she had her beak open for a second or two, then closed it again. She is eating and drinking and being completely normal, but this is my first time raising chicks and I am super stressed. Was she just yawning or something? I'm 90% certain she's fine, but that 10% is getting to me

Is it a hole? If it's just red I wouldn't worry about it. Open mouth can mean it is hot. How warm is your brooder? If over 85-90 I would try lowering the temperature.
Nope! Not a hole, just red. TYSM for giving me piece of mind. I honestly have no idea about the brooder temp. I have the heat plate at what I hope is the right level, and yesterday they used it plenty, but when I went in earlier, once they were on the other side from the heat plate, screaming like crazy, and the other time 2 were asleep right next to the heat plate (the other 3 were under). Should I raise the plate? Lower it? Totally new to this whole chicken thing.
