Red golden pheasant at pet store.

Quote:
as mentioned this is raising serious red flags for me, the main reason is IF those are true Snows then the price is insanely low for even 1 bird,
I have been looking at snows and the price is much higher, I believe from one Reputable breeder they were asking 100.00 $ for 1 bird.
eggs were selling for 25.00$ each.
next is the word Yellow, um Golden?
then theres the actuall price per bird to factor in , but if you look st the "buy them all price" is much lower than the per bird cost.
my thoughts

gypsy- I have about 50 alaskan snows I will sell you for $100 each or better yet I will sell you all the eggs from them for $25 each! (as we normally sell adult snows for $25.00 each)

Brahman- I assume these pheasants are in your local area since you posted he is in upstate NY and your profile says you are in up state NY, so you would be going to LOOK at the birds and PICK them up in person CORRECT??

What would the risk of getting scammed be in that case? The prices are all cheaper than what Tony suggested:
Here in N.H. red goldens are 25.00-30.00 ea,silvers 35.00-40.00 ea,swinhoes 45.00-50.00 ea,yellow golden breeders 60.00-75.00 pr.,splash male 75.00(don't know why they are not pure birds),yellow males 25.00-30.00 ea and alaskan snows(if they are?)50.00-60.00 ea.

The buy them all price should be lower than the individual prices- it is far easier & worth it, to have one person come and buy all the birds; than setting up many appointments with several different people to come out and look at them. When people are moving (as you stated the ad said) you can find some good deals.

YELLOW is one color mutation of a Golden. Here we refer to Golden Pheasants by the mutation color-Yellows, Cinnamons, Splash, Peach, Dark Throated, Silver, Salmon or the normal wild color- we call Reds.

I would worry more about having enough pens and space to house them than the guy spelling trio wrong. I have seen numerous (and I make them too) spelling & grammar errors on here!

I dont see anything wrong with the prices of the birds. They are all within reason.

So what if he did'nt win any spelling bee. That dont make him a crook.

If he is close enough to go look at his birds, then i would say go look.

And like Spectrumranch said , If your selling all the birds at once to one person. The price should be a little cheaper.

I know if someone comes to my place and wants to buy several birds at the same time. I will give him/her a little discount on them.

I dont see how if he is close enough to go look at his birds you could be burnned to bad.

For a beginner i would suggest the pair of yellow goldens or the silvers.

Simply because he has them in pairs or trio's and both are easy to raise! And not expensive getting started. The others would be fine but no males for the red hens. And the swinhoes are a little more expensive

when talking price,,, the prices for them birds are WAY less down south here then they are up north,, last time i was looking at birds in new england, price per bird was twice as much as his prices,, and its not JUST the spelling,, crudders i cant spell,,, but i would know how to spell my birds, what they are,,, but i would go look,, like i said before.

Ok I'm not the brightest bulb in the box, but am I understanding that correct:

The birds listed for sale are less than the normal price of birds in the Northern states, but those same birds sell for less in the south---- so would that mean they are listed at about the going rate of birds down south??

I understand that prices vary by region- I just got home from an 18 hour drive home from TX- so I do actually go to farms around the country and see different prices- but you can also find dramatic price differences among one area. The guy that raises birds for a living- has to make a profit on his birds- and sells them at a level that is competitive with the market. The guy that raises some birds in the backyard for a hobby and does not need to make any money from his birds- normally sells them ( the offspring) cheap or gives them away to move them out and keep his work load easier. You also have the people that are selling them cheaper because of reasons like: moving, getting divorced, illness or death of the owner, etc.

Braham- Tn is right goldens and silvers are good birds to start with. One consideration- goldens are very passive, but some (some- not all) silver males will get aggressive towards their keeper during breeding season. Go LOOK at the birds, make sure they appear healthy and Get the ones YOU like the best if everything seems alright.
