I agree, had them in both 'bare bones' (only perches and nest boxes on ground) or 'messy' with plantings, whole limbs cut with leaves on and placed around with nest boxes on all levels from ground to 5 feet up.  Those in 'messy' were far more likely to set.  everything else were equal- 12' x 60 pens with one adult and one or two juvenile males plus 4-6 females and no other species with them.
 
I also often got told parent raised would be totally wild however they were tame, although the parents were brooder raised and tamed quite well so they had no fear of me and the mothers taught the chicks I was not something to be feared.
