Red Got Away :(

Not in the pitch black darkness.

I gave the treat call but he didn't come even though I could hear him rustling in the pine straw a little.
I don't make pets out of my chickens, especially the boys, so they're not accustomed to being called and picked up.
Ok. If you can hear him, try using a red light to confuse him, and maybe you can get him that way?

I can't get in there and I don't want to push him deeper into the woods.

At this point he's on his own for the night.

Not ideal, but I can't go crashing around in the darkness in thick growth and a brushpile.

I was transporting Red to the bachelor coop, he struggled and caught his claws in my knitted gloves. I was shifting him around to free him and to save my gloves from being torn and he managed to rip himself out of my arms.

Unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough to grab him again and he went under the rail fence into the woods.

We left the light on at the back step in hope that he'll move towards the light and settle somewhere we can catch him before we go to bed. Otherwise I'll see if he shows up in the morning. :(
Oh no. I'm praying he shows up or you find him. :hugs :hugs

Hopefully you don't find a note in the morning from Red trying to blackmail you.
"Hi it's me. Red. Unless you reconsider your decision to sell me instead of making me a finalist, you will never see me again."

That idea likely won't work out for him for long since a predator will see Him, but I still wouldn't be surprised if he leaves you a note.

Even worse, you may find a similiar blackmail note from Yellow.

Yellow was out three times today. I told him that if a predator ate him before I did it was his own fault.

I've clipped every primary and secondary feather he's got and he is still getting lift.

I drew a cartoon similar to that once. The person kept trying to get rid of this rooster, and the rooster would either disappear or pretend to be sick when someone came to buy him, so the person couldn't sell him. Finally, the person was able to, but the rooster escaped, and by the end of the cartoon, he had came back after escaping these hungry wolves and everything. :gig

Is there a secret hole under the fence? Is he climbing the fence instead?

Black isn't getting out -- though he did come out to roost on the heat pump at dusk.

I just don't have time to set up for butchering this week.
Some chickens are smarter than others. I had an ugly Australorp that I clipped all the flight feathers off of both wings, just to discover she was getting out by going under the fence. She was the only one and putting her in a different yard fixed her escaping.
