Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

Most of the posters are working on a dual purpose breed.
How much do your five month old birds weigh and how's their egg production?
Which hatchery did you buy them from?

Egg production? I thought...I don't get eggs yet, they're too young. So I looked for their hatch date..they aren't five months, they are 3.5 months. My bad~ sorry. and I don't know how much they weigh. I have not weighed them.

But I am confused as to why you thought I would have an egg production number at five months. That is slightly over 20 weeks and most hens don't have an actual amount yet that one can count on and depend on.

Anyway, since they were bred to be big and meaty, I simply can't believe when some say...'they won't breed true'. If a person breeds a dog to be big, its offspring are more apt to be big. A horse to be small..its offspring are apt to be small. Can't believe that it would not work the same way.

And I am really not interested in dual purpose so much. They would be only mediocre at anything they do. Kind of like a jack of all trades, but a master of NONE! I've butchered dual purpose and won't ever do it again. The expense of raising them for so long isn't worth it to me.

But anyway, we are doing all of this because we are "wing nuts" and there really is no hope for us! Ha

forgot...just found a small bunch at a feed store. Have no idea where they came from, but store clerk said it takes 3 days to ship them there!!! (don't ask me..how that works!)

it's ok, just let her tell us how to do it. Her birds are only 14 weeks old. YOu know how normal they seem at that age.

BY THE WAY - CONGRATS on your first pullet egg!!!!
