Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

lol, thanks steve, I'm here . . . it's my birthday today!
Birds are doing great, I can't tell you how much I am in love with this years chicks. Color is all over the board in one pen, but consistant in the other. Body type is there. Just waiting to check for longevity before breeding more.
Sounds like things are going a little gentler in your world.

aw shucks, thanks guys! (and katie lol) had a great day. still enjoying the fact that I am down to only three pens of birds whew! well, three and the babies . . . and the turkeys.

My first blue laced red Cornish project egg [from Big Medicine] hatched this morning.

It's white; I figure there's a 25% chance of a recessive white cropping out and kinda hope this is one. Since there's also a chance it would be carrying silver, I figure it would be a very good bird for breeding into my project. However, many of you have probably hatched a white chick that feathered into a red patterned bird, so I don't have to tell you that I'm waiting to see if it stays white. [Of course, a blue laced red Cornish would not really dissappoint me.]

I figure the down color may be a clue to genotype, regardless how it feathers, but not experienced enough to know.

Is it rumpless, or just not growing tail feathers yet? Rumpless birds are missing the last few vertebrae, so rumpless chicks don't have the oil gland for preening nor the little tail nub that tail feathers grow on.

edited because I can't proof read; I usually see what I meant to type. Then too, the mad cow disease is kicked in today............... it took 5 trips to the kitchen to finally remember to bring the cup of coffee back with me.
